Her Royal Highness Princess Basma bint Talal, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Jordanian National Commission for Women and Chairperson of the National Alliance for Combating Hunger and Malnutrition – Najmah, patronized the National Forum organized by the Commission under the theme “Women in Agriculture: From Beneficiaries to Partners.” The forum was held in response to the objectives of the United Nations International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026.
The forum focused on identifying the priorities of women working in agriculture as part of the national dialogue on rural development and policy, while strengthening their participation in shaping decisions that affect their lives and livelihoods.
Her Royal Highness emphasized the importance of the forum, highlighting that addressing the realities of women in the agricultural sector is at the heart of Jordan’s development. Women working in agriculture are not only contributors to production, but also equal partners with a right to opportunities and decision-making, and a vital part of shaping the future of rural communities in Jordan.
Her Royal Highness also noted that the forum aligns with the United Nations’ declaration of 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer, reaffirming the importance of ensuring that women working in agriculture are represented in our policies, programs, and practices, recognizing their central role in the rural economy and their contribution to its growth.
The forum included working sessions with women working in agriculture and representatives from relevant institutions. Discussions covered several key areas, including agricultural guidance and extension services, technology and climate resilience, entrepreneurship, markets and leadership, decent work and care, as well as finance and ownership.
The sessions resulted in a set of clear and specific recommendations, with the aim of incorporating them into Jordan’s National Strategy for Women and following up on their implementation with the relevant stakeholders.
The forum marked the beginning of an ongoing dialogue and follow-up process that connects the voices of women working in agriculture with policymaking, while strengthening national efforts to support their economic and social participation and their role in developing their communities.
The discussions emphasized the importance of moving “from beneficiaries to partners,” reinforcing the role of women farmers and agricultural workers as active partners in development and decision-making. This approach also contributes to building fairer, more sustainable, and more resilient agricultural and food systems.
The forum also highlighted the role of the Jordanian National Commission for Women in bringing together relevant stakeholders, coordinating their efforts, and ensuring that women’s priorities are reflected in national policy and planning processes. It also builds on these discussions to update the National Strategy for Women and its implementation plan, particularly in areas related to women’s economic and social empowerment.
The team of the National Alliance for Combating Hunger and Malnutrition – Najmah played a key role in preparing, organizing, and overseeing the workshop, as well as actively participating in facilitating the working groups and following up on their outcomes.
Najmah is proud of this collective effort, which reflects its commitment to supporting women’s issues in the agricultural sector and turning national dialogue into practical initiatives that can be developed and implemented.
